Holiday Season Means
As the annual holiday season approaches, the demand for free books from Books for Kids goes up and up.
Non-profit agencies of all kinds naturally want to provide gifts for the children and young people they serve, and our brand new, high quality books make perfect holiday gifts.
Big Demand Books have a special way of communicating the holiday spirit, because they speak directly to the person who receives them. Moreover, our books are all brand new, and for many of our recipients that alone is exciting. But it's the lasting value of books that make them especially appealing to all ages. Even a book that one has "outgrown" evokes memories that few toys or games can match. Looking back on well-loved books, and especially re-reading old favorites, is a wonderful way to recapture who we once were, what we once felt, and how we once thought. But long before a book becomes an old favorite, it is a new friend. Whether it's a picture book bright with brilliant drawings or a juvenile novel full of fresh adventures, or a biography of a famous person, or a window into a |
new world, books gladden the hearts of tots and teens alike.
Knowing this, because we have experienced it ourselves, keeps our distribution duo, Jane Levin and Florence Smith, happily busy; while distribution chair, Kathleen Cantrell, keeps ordering more books for them to distribute. For photos of some of the people and books involved in recent distributions, see p. 2.
G.E. Matching Gifts Time

Spelling Bee Scheduled For March 11, 2008 Last year's first ever corporate spelling bee, jointly sponsored by WQLN Family Programs and Books for Kids, was a huge success. We had a full house at Jr's Last Laugh, a great band with the Frank Singer Trio, M.C. Scott Wludega, dozens of baskets to be won or bid on, crazy costumes, and 14 teams of three spirited adults each competing for a trophy and bragging rights for the year. The 2008 event promises to be even bigger, and planning is already under way to be sure that everyone involved has a great time again. We are, of course, looking for corporate sponsors willing to support teams at the $5,000, $2,500, $1,000, $500, or $250 levels. Anyone interested in sponsoring a team or in having more information is invited to call Dean Baldwin at 898-6214 or Traci Teudhope at 217-6020.
Some Recent Thank-Yous
